Fall River Massacusetts Correspondence

vinnysnaps002
vinnysnaps003

Holeshot friend and photographer, Vinny Martin, sent over a couple photographs from the Fall River, Massachusetts area. One of this kid James riding a pre fabulous box jump and some kids sporting a somehow mint, Fishbone BMX bike. One of the worst experiences I've ever had with a BMX part was with Fishbone Cranks. They were awful and I think it was a pretty long time before I was finally blessed with Profiles. I sometimes wonder who buys Alienation parts and then I realize that I was 12 and clueless about good BMX parts once as well.

Exclusivity

Exclusivity is for the birds. While I'm not complaining, when the web is a part time job for you, you become pretty tired with it. Hell, before it was a part time job, I was tired of it. The buzzwords and SEO bullshit can make your head spin, but if there is one word that drives me absolutely crazy, it's "exclusive". The word itself wreaks of snobbery, which, in the world of Holeshot, is comparable to committing a mortal sin. I know people make their livings off these things called websites (and some have no say in the matter), but when did making a living off something equal unprecedented pretentiousness?

Sooner than later, you may notice more content from the Holeshot online world. Don't worry though, the zine isn't going anywhere. It's just going to be more nonsense to keep you going until each issue. Expect only good things to come, and if you find the word Exclusive on here describing anything, you'll know Holeshot has officially jumped the shark.

Trail Perspectives

Belvedere Western Ass Heroes

Holeshot correspondent and all around good guy, Matt Gaspar has a Trails perspective piece on TruBMX. Even though his name is spelled wrong, it's pretty awesome and if you're familiar with Matt's Hangn Brain articles in Holeshot, you know it's going to be funny.

How To: Enjoy A Beer

Poor Man's Hot Tub

This originally appeared in Issue 5, which is still available here.

Okay, so drinking beers is fun pretty much no matter what. It’s basically a guarenteed good time but one of my favorite ways to enjoy a beer is in the shower. I don’t think it’s anything new or some underground sensation (although youtube could prove me wrong) it’s just a good way to get a good buzz going on, especially on a Friday night after work. I’ve heard it called a couple things but the best way to describe it is “the poor man’s hot tub”. Seriously, give it a try, it’ll be a good way to start your night.

Big Day

When I moved to Los Angeles, I really didn't know that many people. Through my friend Vic, I met Dr. Pinzon. Dr. P has become a good person to ride with and better friend. Yesterday, magic happened. After years of trying them, Dr. P landed a tailwhip. This is good for a lot of reasons but namely, I don't have to watch him come excruciatingly close to pulling tailwhip flyouts ever again. Just kidding Luis! Expect more with Dr. P in issue 6, which may or may not be done for Interbike. I feel like if I go with the intention of selling zines, I'll probably get way too happy (aka drunk) and give them away. Who knows though, maybe someone will let me crash their booth?

It's Against My Religion...

I always liked how the Skavenger commercials were pretty ridiculous. Issue 6 done in late September. I had some other news but it probably was more useless information. You should see some of the photos that Kyle Emery Peck has been sending through, very nice. So many that I think there is just going to be a hefty Bay Area section. Why not?

New Holeshot Stickers

No Egos

While I was in Portland I picked up some new stickers from my good friends at KWS. I got a whole sheet done up on clear vinyl with white ink and they look awesome. Those are two on my bike and I also got that logo that's on the pocket as well. Check out the whole sheet below. If you want some just send me a S.A.S.E. to:

Nick Ferreira
4205 3/4 Lockwood Ave.
L.A. CA 90029

Or you can wait until issue 6, but who knows how long that will be, but I'm hoping for September.

Portland is amazing and I can't thank the people who showed us around enough. I hope I can go back soon, possibly permanently, it was that good. I think it would be a good fit for Holeshot and my lifestyle in general.

On an unrelated note, check out this video of good friend Brian Ngyuen and friends shredding at night.

Oh, and here is the sticker sheet. Just to reiterate the fact, it's clear ink on white vinyl. Not black. In other words, they look legit.
