Not too long ago I applied for this job for the Internet Archive and namely the Wayback Machine. Nothing ever came of it but I have spent some of my own time surfing around and coming across some sites myself and my friends used to make. One of my biggest inspirations for my old zine and Holeshot was everything by The Giraffe Brothers. Please go read it, especially if you live in New England because you'll probably get the references to someone like Island Jo (Baldheaded guy with coiled snake tattooed on his head who rode Skater Island).

Orange Line Project #1 from Lee Hopkins on Vimeo.
The new era of Boston BMX? Not bad if that's the case. Check out the site while you're at it here. I just got back from a pretty sweet week long trip around New England. I'll have photos in the blog this week and I need to finish the video part in two weeks. You'll be able to view it in the Gypsy Caravan 3 DVD.

How I'm Spending my Summer Vacation
1. Bike Rides

Simple yet effective form of fun. BMX and late 90's MTB.
2. Riding Cool Shit
Ditches, Banks, Cool looking shitty quarterpipes; whatever. You can find me staying away from the indoor parks this summer.
3. Trying to Get This Thing Running.

I know next to nothing about getting anything mechanical running but a 1980 Puch Moped seems innocent enough.
4. ReReading This Book and Probably Some Others.
5.Getting In The Van.

In a few days Holeshot will be leaving a trail of dust behind us in New England as we embark on the New England Gypsy Tour. I'm honored to be involved and as well as having a tight crew (Brian Nguyen, Kyle Emery-Peck, Jake Honesto, Brian McDonough, Myself and Maybe Ivers?) we'll be visiting all sorts of Holeshot cohorts and shredding the shittiest spots in our party van! And to tie in that Dishwasher Pete thing, check out Podcast #102 of This American Life where they chronicle the highly romanticized American roadtrip.
6. Swimming

Duh.
7. Issue 8
Normally I don't condone working on things during the summer but I gotta get issue 8 going and I think it's going to be travel themed. If you have any off the normal bmx travel stories to contribute, give me a shout and we'll see if we can fit it in. This issue will also include another goody to be revealed at a later time.
That's it, but I'm not trying to stress myself out or anything. What are you up to? Beach, bombing walls, surfing naked?

Ryan Humphrey Industries

Ryan Humphrey (The dude who had a BMX show with Dizz Hicks at Queens International) has a pretty rad portfolio site chronicling his career as an artist. Ghost rides, custom painted BMW 7 hoods, dude is on point. I really love this "Wall of Black" piece pictured above. Give his site a look and watch this Dad Cam esque video of the Queens International show below.

Zine Archive

I know you're probably sitting on the web refreshing The Come Up searching for some more fool's gold videos but what you should be doing is surfing around the Skate & Annoy skate zine archive. Classic xerox styling and even some gems; there's a few Swank Zines in their entirety on there (Tum Yeto). This spread is from Way High Kick Turn, what a sick name! Peep all of their offerings here.

Not to be that guy, but that light at the 2:20 mark or so is awesome.

BMX Quiz by Travis Stoltz
The other day at the trails, I was informed that there was a BMX Quiz on the internet. I googled it and about 4 million popped up. This one is my favorite, sort of because it doesn't work and how can he even confirm some of these nicknames?
Also, check out this article I did on Brian Chapman over on ESPN. Brian and Chris make some sweet bikes and Brian shreds so hard on his handbuilt Circle A flatland frame. man it's nice out today in New England. Feel like going to the beach again and listening to this:
