Cool Photos from Dan Bass.

I came across some cool photos on the Tiny Vices site from Dan Bass. 80's UK seems cool enough for me. And because I can't directly link to the blog post, just head over there and look for it. It's on Page 56. Be careful though, don't get too caught up in some too cool for school stuff happening there.

Have fun tonight.

Pipe Dreams

Pipe
Found in St. Augustine. What a good time, haven't ridden a pipe in awhile. If you'd like to submit something to Issue 7, feel free. I definitely won't print everything and anything but there's always a chance. And so you know humor and cool photos take precedent. Also, I'd like to get some more drawings in this one too.

On a completely different note, I'm sure the more refined readers are familiar with the Sartorialist but I'd like to divert your attention from that to the much funnier and more sensible, Catorialist. Enjoy and be sure to comment on which Tabby looks the best!

MTB(oarding)

While trying to think of a get rich quick scheme, my girlfriend stated that she was going to "put all terrain wheels on a skateboard". I had to politely inform her that someone already failed at getting rich quick with that scheme.

Seek & Stay Fit or Stay Fit & Destroy

Someone informed me of this internet gem recently. Apparently it's pretty fresh too, only 200 views. Enjoy. More photos and whatnot from the FBM/Circuit/Holeshot South of the Border Fiasco soon. I'm still recovering and sorting through the photos. Thanks to everyone who let us stay on their floor, eat their food, party with their dogs, sleep in their hammocks, drink their beers, take showers, etc. You rule!

More antics available on FBM/Circuit/Trails Rule.

box jumps

The contemporary idea of the box jump has been frowned upon due to heavy amounts of Woodwierd refugees preforming acts of random heinous inches from the lip. Yet there are some individuals who have the ability to use said obstacle to its full, visually appealing potential. Above Matty demonstrates this.

Eric Hennessey (aka the dude who had web video of the year) gets sick on the shred sled too. Check out Barn Sessions and more on his always entertaining and wildly bloggy blog, TRAILS RULE.

Back In A Bit

Cycling

I sort of hate cycling. I mean, I love riding bikes but I just hate super serious cyclists, like "One Less Car" type cyclists. I also hate the word "cycling". But regardless riding all kinds of bikes is extremely fun and I've been looking at the map of Rhode Island's bikepath's anxiously awaiting temps above 40 (because I'm not a serious cyclist). I've also been looking into running some Cyclocross jams because riding on trails fast and carrying your bike on your shoulder somehow seems interesting to me.

I was also just informed that there is a new BMX track in West Greenwich. Maybe Holeshot will start covering racing.

Or maybe I'll just hit it on my way to Groton. I'm hoping for some Bernard Posner Saturday morning Groton sessions. Photo by Matteson.

Cuban Links

There's a new site out, The Least Most. Check the article I did on HPV Brian Nguyen. Then check the Van Homan Interview Derek Adams did with Van Homan, where I swiped that sick photo from. Get into it! Then if you're still bored and missed my indoor park survival guide on ESPN, peep it here. I'm off on a trip in a couple days so if you want something shipped before next week sometime, now's your chance.

The New Dig (Issue 74)

The other day I excitedly picked up the new Dig. Part of my excitement was because Will had informed me that a piece I had written made it in and the other part was because I love the photo issue. For the most part, Issue 74 is great. The cover is funny and although it's the stock they've been printing on, it feels like a matte photo paper. Dolecki has some normal articles (the normality is a good thing) and Ricky Adam's rooftop portfolio is unreal. Devin Feil from PegLeg also wrote a great Ballbag. Unfortunately something that has been happening in BMX for a long time really bugged me about it. It's not Dig's fault and I'm not really sure whose fault it is but here goes.

The pretense in BMX Photography is at an all-time high. One of the questions for the Emerging Photographers was "Is BMX Photography Art?". And while I'm not one to put a rule on something that doesn't need a rule, I have to intervene here and say "No". Look, I know you're writing with light but let's face it, your shooting photos of kids riding bikes on half pikes. It's not that I don't appreciate the fact you're basically carrying small children on your back or how long it takes to mathematically light the situation, it's just that I don't care. Everyone knows that shooting BMX photos is a lot of work and not lucrative but it doesn't give you reason to mention it at any given chance. Are you looking for an "Attaboy"?

Let's take the seriousness in the BMX lifestyle down a few notches. Less self-importance and less National Geographic magazine sessions. Or less "culture". Who knows? Sometimes I think a sitdown with our grandparents would be good for this generation. And that's coming from someone who doesn't really respect their elders. If you want to read more commentary on BMX photography, there's a small article I wrote in the new Dig titled, "The Poor Man's Photography Guide". Please don't let the above comments stop you from picking it up, for they are commentary on BMX Photography in general and not Dig. It really is a great issue and worth the dough. And speaking of photography, I love the above photo, found on Dig's Daily Photo.

Dustcam

Love it. Sasquatch Canyon and brethren are the best. I think when the Holeshot DVD comes out I'm gonna have a straight helmet cam section. Speaking of videos, the new AM:PM video is available, through Animal and directly through Joey. I Just got it in the mail lastnight and haven't had a chance to watch it yet but if I can base it on the first AM:PM DVD, I'm sure it's dope. Youtube User Hairyhere sums up my views on AM:PM perfectly, "im always waiting for new am:pm movie and i never get dissapointed.". Check the trailer below. Three minutes of shredding.

Top 3 Songs on JAMN 94.5

I wasn't really a Rihanna fan but I like this, mostly for the jabs at her former lover/fool Browndog.

Terrible until the Wayne verse, even then it's still pretty booty.

The best.

In zine news, I'm going to be offering 4 issue subscriptions starting next week. All of the subscriptions from before are expired and 4 more issues will bring us to a nice even 10 issues. I was going to stop now but this issue came out real good, so I'm pumped. Hope everyone's orders have made it out, if you had any problems feel free to drop a line. Take it easy!

Old News: Winter Still Sucks

It's winter, and if you live up here in the northeast, heading south is the best option if you like feeling your fingers. Pretty much everyone that's touched a bmx bike in the last 15 years from the town I grew up in (except me) did just that last week. Check out the footage from their trip. Looks like fun right? Get on that.

This Place

Typed in "BMX Fun" to google images. Got this beast. Place looks kind of fun. Actually I didn't use quotations, which as you know makes all the difference in internet searches.

Three Copies of Issue 4 Available!

Issue 4 Cover

I found some copies of Issue 4 while unpacking some stuff the other day. This one comes with a color cover and is unique in format at 8.5x7.5. I only have three available but I'm willing to get rid of them for some dough. If you're interested email me at ferreira[dot]nick[at]gmail.com. Still skeptical? Read the review of that issue over on ESPN.
